Cheaper public transport
For many Wellingtonians transport is a significant cost. Cheaper bus and train fares are key to lowering the cost of living, reducing congestion on our city’s streets and increasing public transport usage and reliability.
Andrew Little and Labour’s Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) candidates are proposing policies to make public transport more affordable.
The key commitments are:
- Reducing bus and train fares through a weekly cap on fares.
- Working with central government to keep fares down.

Prioritising our community facilities
Facilities such as libraries, swimming pools and community centres are the heart of our communities. These should be a priority for Council and under an Andrew Little Mayoralty they will be.
Under this Council, vital facilities that our people rely on have been placed under threat due to misplaced priorities and a Council that has lost touch with the communities it is supposed to serve.
Andrew Little will protect the community facilities currently under threat and make facilities in high-use areas a priority for new investment.
The key commitments are:
- Save Khandallah Pool, the Begonia House, Karori Event Centre and Brooklyn Library.
- Prioritise the Kilbirnie park master plan and sports hub and a new Tawa Anchor Project, with further projects to be identified following community consultation.
- Stronger financial controls including an external capital advisory group to run the ruler over project management and costings

Democracy - a Council that serves Wellington
For Wellington to rebuild its confidence, the public needs to have confidence in the Council. This will require the mayor to lead a serious culture change.
Andrew Little is proposing a series of reforms to make the Council more transparent, more democratic and more accountable to the people of Wellington.
The key commitments are:
- End the misuse of commercial confidentiality.
- Genuinely engage with the public on major decisions.
- Require Community Impact Statements for all major Council decisions.
